So this last rehearsal we focused on preparing the ensemble to be able to adapt the piece for different spaces and different venues. We were given the opportunity to perform at the Culver Center in downtown Riverside for a fund raising event with the dean. So we continually rotated the facing of the dancers within our rehearsal space to practice their spacial awareness. After a couple of run-throughs, they got the hang of the changes and we felt very confident in their ability to adapt to the long Culver space. We also made sure that we ran the “flocking” section a couple of times with various slight additions to the movement qualities to “pep up” the blandness of the choreography.
I love thinking of how new technology such as this will help in analyzing, capturing and recording dance and choreography:
